Olive green runs across the body of this Kanchipuram silk saree and meets a rich maroon border striped with gold zari. Mehendi green with maroon is a warm, much loved pairing that suits lamplight beautifully, and the zari stripes give the border clear definition. The pure mulberry silk drapes heavily and the gold brightens as the pallu sways. A handsome saree for festival evenings, weddings and family celebrations.

The craft
Kanchipuram Silk
Woven in the temple town of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, from pure mulberry silk and real zari. Its hallmark is the korvai technique, where a contrast border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked to the body for lasting strength. Rich temple, check and floral motifs make it a treasured wedding heirloom.
