How to tell a real Kanchipuram Silk Cotton
This is the Kanchipuram tradition woven in a silk and cotton blend rather than pure silk. The cotton content is what makes it lighter and breathable, and you can feel it: it is softer against the skin and considerably less heavy than a pure silk Kanchipuram.
The zari borders remain the signature, joined to the body by the kuppadam technique rather than stitched on, so the border is part of the cloth.
Wearing it
Each set includes the skirt, the blouse and the dupatta, colour matched, so nothing needs sourcing separately. The blouse comes stitched and ready to wear.
The dupatta can be draped over one shoulder to show the border, or pinned at the waist and taken across for a fuller, more traditional look. Because the fabric is lighter than pure silk, the skirt moves more easily, which suits daytime weddings, temple visits and festival mornings.
