Deep violet meets a band of sea green on this Kanchipuram silk saree, the two divided by the rettaipet, the twin zari lines that mark a traditional Kanchipuram border. The pure mulberry silk carries a weight and a glow that only a Kanchipuram loom gives, and the gold catches light as the pallu moves. Violet with sea green is a cool, confident pairing on a very old weave. A beautiful saree for temple ceremonies, weddings and family celebrations.

The craft
Kanchipuram Silk
Woven in the temple town of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, from pure mulberry silk and real zari. Its hallmark is the korvai technique, where a contrast border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked to the body for lasting strength. Rich temple, check and floral motifs make it a treasured wedding heirloom.
