A warm orange body turns into a purple pallu on this Thirubuvanam silk saree, where gold zari peacocks face each other in the classic arrangement. The korvai join between the two colours is made on the loom rather than stitched, which is what gives the border its strength. A fine zari line edges the drape. The peacock stands for grace in South Indian imagery, and here it carries the whole pallu. A striking saree for receptions, festival evenings and celebration dinners.
