Olive green with fine gold stripes runs across this Kanchipuram silk saree and closes into a deep purple border worked with zari. The mehendi green and purple combination is a favourite in Tamil homes for good reason, as it looks rich in daylight and richer by lamplight. The mulberry silk carries a soft sheen and the zari lines catch the eye as the pleats move. A graceful saree for temple mornings, pujas and family celebrations.

The craft
Kanchipuram Silk
Woven in the temple town of Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, from pure mulberry silk and real zari. Its hallmark is the korvai technique, where a contrast border and pallu are woven separately and interlocked to the body for lasting strength. Rich temple, check and floral motifs make it a treasured wedding heirloom.
