A deep green Kanchipuram silk canvas carries a hand painted kalamkari pallu where rows of deities and a panel of fine script unfold in natural dyes. The clean body lets the painted storytelling take centre stage, framed by a slim gold zari border. Every figure is drawn freehand with the bamboo kalam over patient days. A wearable piece of temple art for festivals and special celebrations.

The craft
Kalamkari Kanchipuram
Kalamkari is a centuries old hand painting art from Andhra Pradesh, most famously from Srikalahasti, where every motif is drawn freehand with a bamboo pen called a kalam and set with natural dyes. Scenes from mythology, temples, peacocks and lotuses are painted onto silk over many patient days. A wearable work of art, treasured for festivals, weddings and special occasions.
